How many lightsabers colors are there

Canonically the green lightsaber is commonly used by wiser, senior Jedi, such as Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn, and later Luke Skywalker after completing his Jedi training.

It is also worth noting that Ahsoka Tano uses a pale green shoto lightsaber as well, as, in the Expanded Universe, green lightsabers designate a Jedi Consular.

A very rare color also used by the Jedi, the purple lightsaber is synonymous with the fallen Jedi Master Mace Windu. The purple lightsaber itself was, in fact, a request made by Samuel L. Jackson directly to Lucas, whose favorite color is purple. However, in the Expanded Universe, it indicates moral ambiguity, uncertainty, and reconstruction, as purple is a combination of red and blue.

Therefore, the purple lightsaber represents that its user shows an affinity with both the light and dark sides of the Force. This color is singularly used by Jedi Temple guards, who carry double-bladed yellow lightsaber pikes.

Little is known about this particular lightsaber color, so whether these are made intentionally yellow to distinguish the guards, or the crystal chooses the temple guards by turning yellow is currently unclear, although characters like Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka have wielded this lightsaber color at some point.

In the Expanded Universe, yellow lightsabers are used by Jedi sentinels, and when the ancient Jedi Jaden Korr purified a red lightsaber crystal, it turned yellow, which perhaps indicates a pious nature within its user. In the Star Wars Expanded Universe, orange blades have sometimes been used by the Sith and recently dark-aligned Jedi, but in the new canon, there's no indication what if anything it means with Jedi: Fallen Order providing few in-game clues at present.

White lightsabers were primarily used by Ahsoka Tano and are proof of her mastery of the Force. Ahsoka retrieved these special Kyber crystals from the lightsaber of the Sixth Brother, an Inquisitor she killed during the Imperial occupation of Raada while she was in hiding after the collapse of the Jedi Order.

These originally emitted a red blade, but Ahsoka purified them with the use of the Force and restored them to a white color, which ended up representing her status as an autonomous individual, as she was no longer affiliated to the Jedi and had no affinity to the dark side. These new white crystals were used by her in two lightsabers, one of which was in a shoto blade. However, following the Battle of Ruusan , the hues of most available crystals had been limited to either blue or green.

Lightsaber color crystals could also be compressed, resulting in a pulsating blade, or they could be unstable, resulting in a core which swirled and sparkled. Lightsaber crystals of different hues could also be used in the same lightsaber to make a new blade color; for example, Galen Marek used Rahm Kota 's green crystal along with his father's deep blue crystal to create an aqua blue blade.

Crystals first appeared in the Star Wars galaxy simply as an embedded decoration on the lightsaber hilt in the A New Hope novelization. Most crystals with special properties were from various video game and roleplaying-game sources. Since these special powers were often a function of game play, and not of the storyline, it is questionable if these powers are canon. However, since there are several examples of crystals with special powers in actual storylines e.

Lambent, Kaiburr, etc. In Star Wars Galaxies , players must "tune" lightsaber crystals to themselves before they may use them in a lightsaber. Once tuned, the crystal can only be used by that player, and only in lightsabers created by that player.

In Star Wars: The Old Republic , players are able to gain lightsaber crystals to use with their lightsabers. Wookieepedia Explore. Star Wars. Clone Wars Droids Ewoks. Without that attunement, the crystal is just a rock. And while a non-Force user could probably ignite and wield a lightsaber, the crystal is needed to be properly attuned to the Force.
