Audi a4 catch can install

I'm not overly familiar with the audi setup but yes you should block off the hole in the throttle intake pipe and then run the blow off from the crank case to the catch can.

There are usually 2 pipes to the crank case, one will be at atmospheric presure and filtered to draw air into the crank case and the other will be going into the inlet under vacuum and will have an oil trap. In reality both need to be disconnected from the intake system and vented to the catch tank then the catch can must be vented to atmoshpere. With this setup you will have no air flow through the crank case and gasses will only be vented by windage and pressure differences hot air expanding out of the crank case.

Do not block up the crank case breathers or seal the catch can as this will cause all sorts of problems with the air pressure inside the engine.

Lee Goodall Oct 19, ScottD3 Mar 3, The one I use for the manifold is a cheap ebay one Ive added baffles to and a check valve so it doesnt get pressurized and the larger one is homemade using some large aluminum rec-tube and a spiraling effect to "throw" the oil of the air.

The reason I wanted to go with the catch can is that when I pulled the oem intercooler and piping it had a massive amount of oil in it ,km and now that I've had the head rebuilt and put a new Fmic on it and all new silicone pipes I don't want it filling up with oil again or corroding the pipes I'm sure the previous owner neglected it.

I'm still got the original pcv setup so I'm now torn between catch can or renewing oem system. Sent from my E using Tapatalk. Originally Posted by A4-Mike. It may help to move the "pancake" valve from the back of the valve cover to the turbo inlet pipe itself. I removed the pipe that bolts to the valve cover entirely, installed a piece of pipe as a hose barb into the Y off the back of the valve cover where old pipe was attach a hose from that to your catch can inlet, and go from the catch can outlet to pancake valve on the turbo inlet pipe. Check it every oil change. That's what I was thinking so where abouts have you got you catch can is it like above the exhaust on the firewall?

My catch can is baffled. Do you have any pics of your setup? No pics as of yet, no camera. I mounted it where the battery used to be. And worth a mention: if your intercooler was filled with oil, take a peak at your turbo's inlet. Which is the purpose of running a catch can after all right? If you've removed the SAI pump, depending on your intake and intercooler, might fit there.

But the battery really does belong in trunk, and makes a great spot for a catch can. Last edited by A4-Mike; at PM. Reason: And being from Australia my brake booster and battery are on the opposite side to yours. There are eight of them, and these connector locks operate the same as the MAF sensor connector.

Place the new breather tube gasket onto the turbo adapter plate, then thread two of the new M6 x 16 screws through the plate and into the gasket. Note that the tab on the gasket aligns with the cutout in the adapter plate.

It is only necessary to tighten these by hand using a crescent type wrench. Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil and slide the PCV adapter into the PCV assembly, then install and tighten the retaining bolt. Place the bracket mounting plate onto the lip of the radiator core support in the location shown.

Slide the catch can bracket underneath the radiator core support so the screw holes in the bracket are lined up underneath the holes in the bracket mounting plate. Reference step 35 for a side view to make sure you have the bracket correctly installed. Loosely install the remaining two new M6 x 16 bolts, then push the bracket against the rib in the radiator core support direction of arrow and tighten the bolts.

Using clean engine oil, lubricate the o-ring seal that is located in the groove of the separator. With the new catch can in its installed position, note the locations of the feed and return side of the separator. Install the return line in place between the catch can and the turbo adapter plate and tighten both fittings.
