How old is gen x now

Rolling Stone declared it one of the greatest albums of all time. Like books and black lives, albums still matter. It made them artists that mattered. Not every friendship translated to chemistry on the phone.

But what a rush when it did: The conversation could go anywhere; it was mental improv. You had the feeling that, connected over miles by a wire, you were the only two people alive.

For me, the epic phone calls peaked in college and early adulthood, and dwindled with the rise of cellphones. There were the billable minutes to worry about, and brain cancer.

Now, the only phone calls I have are with my mother, on Sundays. TV may have never seen a better embodiment of Gen X slackerdom than Andre, whose band was called, with utter seriousness, Reigndance. Before the wrist tangle there was the thin black line, and we all wanted one around our necks. It was a seam joining head to body — or separating it, depending on your point of view, and how alienated you were feeling. Leto grew up to become a muse to the Gucci designer Alessandro Michele, co-host of the Met Gala in honor of camp?

Would this signal the beginning of the gender-fluid fashion for which Mr. Leto is now famous? These are the kind of questions to which only God, and maybe Douglas Coupland, have the answers.

That was awesome. A very few CDs became cool dresses, and the rest became coasters and trash. And an entire generation learned to never trust again. He was the poster boy — and prettiest boy — of Gen X. We all killed Laura Palmer. Just kidding, it was her dad. It made some sense, short-term. First and most famously there were Linda, Christy and Naomi, but equally important were Elle, Cindy, Claudia, Tyra and Helena; Carla, Tatjana, Nadja, Yasmin and Yasmeen; and, of course, Kate, who managed somehow, defying all assumptions, to bridge the gap.

They were a more diverse group of women than had previously been in magazines and on runways, both in skin color and body shape, and they were fully aware of their power and marketability and willing to wield it without apology. They paved the way for a redefinition of beauty that decades later is coming to fruition.

They appeared in music videos ; populated gossip columns by dating movie stars , rock stars and royalty ; and became brands unto themselves.

They built empires on not just fashion, but also sheets and sofas, and they took up causes. They got divorced, remarried, had children, had breakdowns, aged in public. And most of them are still, on occasion, modeling.

They were both our ego and our id. With Throwing Muses, Cocteau Twins, Lush, Pixies, the Breeders and His Name Is Alive, and now home to Grimes and Deerhunter and Future Islands, the label not only dominated alternative rock and pop music of all mostly white stripes, but its distinctive aesthetic, largely the product of the designer Vaughan Oliver, made the label aesthetically omnipresent and powerful. But, Taffy Brodesser-Akner asks, what would we do with him then? In the near term, you will see a number of reports and analyses from the Center that continue to build on our portfolio of generational research.

Today, we issued a report looking — for the first time — at how members of Generation Z view some of the key social and political issues facing the nation today and how their views compare with those of older generations. To be sure, the views of this generation are not fully formed and could change considerably as they age and as national and global events intervene. Even so, this early look provides some compelling clues about how Gen Z will help shape the future political landscape.

In the coming weeks, we will be releasing demographic analyses that compare Millennials to previous generations at the same stage in their life cycle to see if the demographic, economic and household dynamics of Millennials continue to stand apart from their predecessors.

Yet, we remain cautious about what can be projected onto a generation when they remain so young. Donald Trump may be the first U. Bush and Barack Obama shaped the political debate for Millennials, the current political environment may have a similar effect on the attitudes and engagement of Gen Z, though how remains a question.

We look forward to spending the next few years studying this generation as it enters adulthood. Fresh data delivered Saturday mornings. It organizes the public into nine distinct groups, based on an analysis of their attitudes and values. Even in a polarized era, the survey reveals deep divisions in both partisan coalitions. Use this tool to compare the groups on some key topics and their demographics.

The majority of older millennials say 40 is when middle age begins, but they feel that that period of their life lasts only for a decade. The median age reported by older millennials as the end of middle age is 50 years old, which is shorter than what the general population thinks: 40 to Still, not all older millennials would even call themselves that.

Many millennials first came into their own during the Great Recession. After that rough start, they finally felt like they were gaining traction in terms of career goals and lifecycle milestones when they got smacked down again by a worldwide health crisis.

One step at a time.
